To Be A Disciple 2
In the first part of this post I wrote that “we are to follow Jesus — be His disciples — in the same way that we are to love Him — as Jesus says in Mark 12:30 ‘with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’”
And, “that it is possible to become this type of disciple — this type of Christ-follower — but not without help. We cannot become this without help.”
This is plainly stated more the once in Scripture. In Ecclesiasties 4:9-12 we are told that we need others to help us walk through through this life. In verse 12 God tells us that “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
In Mark 6:7, when Jesus sent out the 12, and in Luke 10: 1 when He sent out the 72 He sent them out two-by-two so they could support each other.
In Galations 6:2 we are told “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” We are to help others with their burdens. This is where we will find one of the hidden and assumed truths that A. W. Tozer speaks of. If we are are commanded to bear each others burdens then is would make sense that we are also commanded to allow others to carry our burdens as well.
We are not meant to walk this road alone and God never intended us to walk alone. Never be afraid to let someone else support you and carry some of the load.
