Hmm, Interesting

Psalm 4:8
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Okay, that's a nice sentiment, but David didn't have all the fears, worries, concerns, and pressure that I do today; or did he?  No, he didn't, at least not the same ones. Many of David's were concerned with matters of life and death; for example:

It is believed that David wrote Psalm 4 at one of the most spiritually, difficult and physically dangerous times in his life. It was during one of the times when he was on the run from King Saul. He and his men were in a cave hiding and Saul and his army were camped right outside the cave. If they were found by Saul it would mean certain death. And yet, David could lay down and go to sleep without worrying. Why? Because he knew God would keep he and his men safe.

Notice, he did not say, "I will lie down in peace, and sleep; for Your will is perfect; whether I live or die." He was certain in his faith that God would keep him safe and protect Him from capture and death.

David's attitude here is a perfect example of the attitude that God has Paul write about in Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but by prayer and petition , with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." If we know anything about David, it is that he had a close, personal relationship with God. I have to believe that when David made his request concerning his dangerous and deadly predicament known to his Father,he had no doubt as to the outcome.

Now, the results of doing what God says to do in Philippians 4:6 are clearly stated in 4:7, "And, the the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Notice the use of the word "will" in this verse. This is definitive statement of what will happen if we do what is written in 4:6. This is not a possibility; it is a certainty.

It was this certainty that David relied on on that night.

Hmm, interesting!

When was the last time that the fears, worries, concerns, and pressure that kept you awake at night were literally a matter of life and death? I know that, for me, I can remember only one time where my life actually hung in the balance. It was the night before I had triple bypass open heart surgery. And, interestingly enough, I honestly believe that it was the most peaceful night's sleep I have ever had. Why was that?
Because I trusted God to bring me through alive and well, and I never once considered that God would not do so. And, as you can tell from the fact that I am writing this blog; He did.

If it is true that the God that David followed and trusted is the same God that we follow and trust; we need never lose a night's sleep because of any worries we may have. Because if God can protect David the way He did on the night David wrote Psalm 4. God will show Himself faithful to us and fulfill His promise to us just as He did with David.

Hmm, interesting.
